Before We Were Born
God knew us and chose us in His mind before the creation of the world and way before our birth.
John and Mary’s oldest children were already in high school when they received surprising news: Mary was pregnant again.
Robert and Michelle had been planned and prayed for years earlier. This new baby was completely unexpected—an “oops,” as some might call it.

But God does not make mistakes. No baby is ever an accident in His eyes, whether born into a loving marriage or an unplanned pregnancy. Every life is intentional. As Scripture tells us:
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made… Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
–Psalm 139:13-16
Now – God’s Present and Intimate Knowledge
He knows every thought, every action, every word, and every detail of our daily lives.
John and Mary’s carefully laid plans suddenly need major adjustments. They had years to prepare financially for Robert and Michelle’s college and their own retirement. Now they face another 18+ years of raising a child and must rethink their future. The road ahead feels uncertain to them—but it has never been uncertain to God.

Forever – God Knows Us for All Eternity
His knowledge is unlimited, unchanging, and eternal.
While John and Mary’s future now looks very different than they expected, it was never outside of God’s plan. He sees the end from the beginning.
“Great is our Lord and mighty in power;
his understanding has no limit.” – Psalm 147:5 (NIV)
We don’t know exactly how their new child will change John and Mary’s lives, but we can be confident of this: if they walk in faith and obedience to God, He will guide them and bring beauty from this unexpected chapter. The baby is blessed to be born into a loving, God-honoring family. And we have seen God do amazing things through children born in far more difficult circumstances.
A Real-Life Example
Greg Stier was conceived through a one-night stand. His mother, already raising another child in difficult circumstances, initially planned to have an abortion. She even began the long drive to obtain one but ultimately chose life. Greg grew up in a turbulent, unstable home marked by poverty and chaos.
Today, Greg is a powerful Christian leader. He is the founder of Dare 2 Share Ministries, one of the largest youth evangelism organizations in the world. He has trained hundreds of thousands of young people to boldly share their faith, written multiple books, and speaks at conferences across the country. His life is clear evidence that God can bring extraordinary purpose out of even the most unexpected beginnings.
God is Merciful

Nothing Happens Without God’s Permission
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you…”- Jeremiah 1:5
Whether our beginnings were carefully planned or completely unexpected, God can bring great purpose to our lives. The key is to turn our hearts toward Him, let His light fill us, and walk in step with His Holy Spirit, who guides us through every challenge.
“Even as he chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will.” – Ephesians 1:4-5
